Project Summary:
In coordination with an ongoing project to enhance the Verdi Mill Pond for recreational fishing, Otis Bay Ecological Consultants constructed 650 feet of naturalized channel connecting the pond to the Truckee River. To create favorable conditions for rearing eggs and young Lahontan cutthroat trout, instream channel habitat was designed with cobble and gravel substrate to create riffles and pools, and stabilizing bank vegetation was planted to prevent channel erosion and provide root structure for aquatic biota. Crystal Peak Park is a popular spot for picnics, walking, and outdoor recreation. The trail system, fishing pond, and channel project enhance this outdoor experience.
